A RARE COMPOSITE GERMAN BROADSWORD
EARLY 16TH CENTURY
With reprofiled tapering double-edged hollow-ground blade with pronounced medial ridge on each side, struck on each side with a maker's mark towards the forte, and with traces of etched decoration on each side at the forte, later iron guard of long swelled flat quillons each with horizontally recurved tip, and grooved pointed quillon-block, later leather-covered grip bound with copper wire, and pavise-shaped brass pommel retaining traces of original gilding, engraved with an interlace pattern to the edges and with two putti each supporting a shield bearing a coats-of-arms on each face divided by a roped raised medial ridge
