A MILITARY BROADSWORD (KATZBALGER) IN GERMAN EARLY 16TH CENTURY STYLE

With broad double-edged blade with rounded tip and full-length twin fullers on each side, grooved ricasso struck on each face with a pair of marks, iron hilt of characteristic form comprising guard with long horizontally recurved rounded quillons each extending from the open mouth of a stylised serpent's head, with central section cut with diamonds each engraved with a flower-head, and terminating in a large ball finial almost touching the stem of the other quillon, grooved quillon-block extending to a short collar for the grip, short wooden grip, and long tapering fish-tail shaped pommel cut with stylised shells on the upper flat
