A FINE NORTH ITALIAN (BRESCIAN) LEFT-HAND DAGGER (MAIN GAUCHE)
LATE 17TH CENTURY
With tapering single-edged blade double-edged at the point, back-edge cut with ornamental grooves and notches, and rectangular ricasso with grooved and scrolled base, the main part punched with small circles and with faceted edges, the reverse with thumb-indent, iron hilt comprising long straight quillons each chiselled with leaves and terminating in a flat rosette, triangular guard with turned outer edges finely pierced and chiselled with scrollwork on each face, cylinderical grip and flattened cushion-shaped pommel each chiselled and pierced en suite
