A FINE & VERY UNUSUAL PAIR OF ITALIAN OVER-AND-UNDER PERCUSSION PISTOLS
BY CARLO MARIA COLOMBO, MILAN, CIRCA 1840
Each with browned octagonal sighted upper barrel of 22-bore, rifled with seven grooves and two gold-inlaid lines at the muzzle and signed 'COLOMBO. IN. MILANO. PRTO.E PATENTATO DALL A.R. GOVERNO E PREMIATO DA S.M.J.R. FERDINANDO I' in gold along the upper flats, browned lower octagonal to round blunderbuss barrel inlaid with two gold-lines at the elliptical muzzle, case-hardened breeches respectively numbered '1' and '2' in gold and engraved with scrollwork framing small shaped gilt panels, case-hardened tangs and back-action locks decorated en suite, the latter respectively signed 'COLOMBO' and 'IN MILANO', figured walnut butts, blued iron mounts decorated with further scrollwork and gilt panels, and original iron ramrods housed in between the barrels on the right side, retaining much original finish throughout (bluing faded on mounts)
