A FINE & RARE SAXON LEFT-HAND DAGGER WITH SILVER EMBELLISHMENT
LAST QUARTER OF THE 16TH CENTURY
With stout tapering blade of flattened hexagonal section changing to flattened diamond section at the point, cut with a central fuller and with fluted ricasso on each side, blackened iron guard comprising short slightly arched waisted quillons each with button finial and small side-ring, slightly swelling grip bound with silver wire and with a pierced and engraved acanthus-leaf ferrule above and below, blackened faceted fig-shaped pommel with domed silver cap engraved with panels of foliage, one inhabited by an owl, and silver tang-button
