This seal is recorderd by Roger Dumbrell in his book Understanding Antique Wine Bottles (Woodbridge, 1983), p. 95. John Folliot was an officer of the British Army and on 15 June 1743 was made Colonel of the 61st Regiment of Foot. He continued to have a successful military career and was eventually promoted to Lieutenant-General on the Staff in Ireland. He also pursued a political career and held a seat in the Irish House of Commons until his death in 1762.
