A RENAISSANCE SILVER-GILT SPOON
APPARENTLY UNMARKED, NORTH GERMAN OR SCANDINAVIAN, LATE 16TH CENTURY
The finely modelled cast figural stem in form of a loosely draped woman, one arm clasped above her breast, descending to a lion mask above the bowl, the latter engraved to front with a female figure with spear in one hand and a flaming heart in the other, a city behind and on either side a winged flaming heart pierced with two arrows and a monogram CWS, back of bowl engraved with foliage and a vase of flowers, back of stem inscribed PH above a monogram
