Lot Essay

This piece recalls the table designed by the architect Alfred Waterhouse for the Earl of Selbourne's Blackmoor House in Hampshire between 1869-73. The cabinetmaker responsible was James Capel. See J. Cooper, Victorian & Edwardian Furniture & Interiors, London, 1987, fig. 229.
