Gisburne Park, West Riding, Yorkshire, was built in 1724 by Thomas Lister (1688-1745), grandfather of Thomas Lister, 1st Baron Ribblesdale (1752-1826). This view shows the newly-built house set amongst the fine garden and park designed by Peter Bourguignon. His signed plan, which is dated 1735, is in the collection of the Yorkshire Archeological Society at Leeds. A later picture of Gisburne (attributed to Joseph Francis Nollekens and Arthur Devis), showing an extension between the house and stables, is illustrated in John Harris, The Artist and The Country House, London, 1979, p. 218, no. 235.
