The present pair of vases related to the laurel-swagged and garlanded ornamentation 'dans le Goût pittoresque' popularised by the architect and designer Jean-Charles Delafosse (1734-1791) in his Nouvelle Iconologie Historique, 1768. They relate most particularly to a laurel-swagged part fluted tapering urn with Greek key handles, depicted to the centre of an Ecran sur Pivot illustrated by the celebrated ornemaniste in his seminal publication.
