Lot Essay

An identical pair of vases is located in the Carlos IV chapel at the Palacio de los Borbones, San Lorenzo de El Escorial (ill. Exhibition Catalogue Carlos IV: Mecenas y coleccionista, Palacio Real de Madrid, Madrid, 2009, fig. 4, p. 31). An additional vase of the same design was also sold 'Imperial Design', Christie's, London, 25 November 2008, lot 76.
