AN AUSTRIAN PARCEL-GILT AND CREAM-PAINTED SUITE OF SEAT FURNITURE
VIENNA, LATE 18TH CENTURY
Comprising a set of four fauteuils, four side-chairs and a pair of canapés, each with an oval padded back, arms and seat covered in vieux rose velvet and water green silk, respectively, the berried laurel-carved cresting with flowerheads, with scrolled arm supports, on turned tapering fluted legs headed by floral paterae and terminating in toupie feet
The fauteuils: 36¾ in. (93.5 cm.) high; 24¼ in. (61.5 cm.) wide; 25½ in. (65 cm.) deep
The side chairs: 37 in. (94 cm.) high; 19 in. (48.5 cm.) wide; 20½ in. (52 cm.) deep
The canapés: 39½ in. (100 cm.) high; 59¾ in. (152 cm.) wide; 26 in. (66 cm.) deep (10)

Probably Augustin Louis Joseph Casimir Gustave de Franquetot, Marquis and Duc de Coigny (1788-1865), thence by descent to his daughter
Georgiana Jane Elizabeth Fanny (b.1910), thence by descent to her daughter,
Lady Emily Annora Charlotte Pierrepont (b.1935), second wife of Frederick Lygon, 6th Earl Beauchamp (b.1830), to their daughter
Lady Maud Hoare, née Lady Maud Lygon, later Viscountess Templewood, by descent to
Paul Edward Paget, Esq., son of Henry Luke Paget, Bishop of Chester, and nephew of Sir Samuel John Gurney Hoare, 1st Viscount Templewood GCSI, GBE, CMG, PC, OWL (d.1959), until sold Christie's, 18 March 1965, lot 102, £1400 (where described as Austrian).
