Lot Essay

A closely related pair of candelabra is at the château de Fontainebleau (ill. J.P.Samoyault, Pendules et Bronzes d'ameublement entrés sous le Premier Empire, Paris, 1989, p. 153, fig.130, whilst a further related example - albeit with patinated bronze figures - is in the Musée du Louvre (ill. D. Alcouffe et.al, Gilt bronzes in the Louvre, Dijon, 2004, p. 176, fig.90). A virtually identical pair was sold 'The Carraro Rizzoli Collection', Christie's, London, 14 December 2006, lot 24 (£33,600 with premium).
