Each with a tapering backplate with Ionic capital surmounted by a swagged classical urn with cone finial, issuing scrolled branches wth foliate drip-pans and nozzles, and hung with fruiting laurel garlands, minor differences to chasing, fitted for electricity

These impressive wall-lights, in the fashionable goût grec of the 1770s, are based on a design traditionally attributed to the celebrated architect and ornémaniste, Jean-Charles Delafosse (d. 1789). With their distinctive swagged and acanthus-cast scrolled arms, they bear a close resemblance to a pair in the collection of the Musée du Louvre (illustrated H. Ottomeyer and P. Pröschel et al, Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. I, p. 186, fig. 3.9.2).
