Madge Gill, an Outsider artist, came close to death after the stillbirth of her only daughter; she would return to health but be forever haunted by the loss. It was some weeks after her return to health, on 3 March 1920, that Gill was first 'possessed' by Myrninerest, her spirit-guide. After this she took a sudden and passionate interest in drawing, repeatedly depicting discarnate and nameless women, albeit with an apparent concern for beauty.
