This chest, made of well seasoned mahogany, is of the same construction as a tallboy with several Philip Bell characteristics sold in these Rooms, 11 December 2012, lot 1753. Bell, of St Paul's Church Yard (fl. c.1740-1774), favoured this foot profile in particular: see figs. 95, 98 and 101 in the Pictorial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, London, 1996.
