JOHNSTON, W & A.K. 30 Inch Terrestrial Globe. Edinburgh and London, (circa 1902)

A large library globe, diameter 30 inches (76cm.), overall height 46 inches (117cm.). The globe made up to two sets of 32 hand-coloured lithographic gores, with polar calottes, title label pasted on, partially hand-coloured, the oceans marked with the principal steamship routes indeicated, those for the Atlantic dated (the latest dated 1901), (the varnish removed and globe slightly washed, several areas of restoration on the northern hemiphere). Metal pinions, brass meridian circle, engraved horizon circle slightly chipped (lacking brass centre post). The globe mounted on a four legged stand, with cross-stretchers. The largest globe issued by the popular map publishers W. and A.K. Johnstone; produced for the executive rather than the school-room market, it is a formidable construction made to a very high standard.
