The firm of clockmakers Raingo Frères was established by four brothers in 1813 and recorded at 8 rue de la Touraine by 1830. From the 1840s they expanded their repertoire to include finely cast ormolu mounts for furniture and objects. In addition to the duc de Chartres, for whom they are recorded to have supplied clocks in 1823, they also carried out commissions for Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie circa 1860. Known for the fine quality of their ormolu, the firm exhibited at many of the important expositions of the second half of the 19th century and served as fondeurs for a number of prominent sculptors, including Jean-Jacques Pradier, Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse and August Moreau.
