A PAIR OF VICTORIAN SILVER VEGETABLE DISHES AND COVERS ON OLD SHEFFIELD PLATE WARMING BASES

Shaped circular with shell and foliate scroll borders, both interior sides of each dish engraved with crest coronet, the detachable heraldic handles mirroring the engraving, vis. a swan issuing from a ducal coronet, the covers engraved to one side with a coat of arms, the other side with a knight's helm surmounted by the crest coronet and flanked by foliate scrolls, on conforming Old Sheffield Plate warming stands on foliate scroll feet

The arms are for Lieutenant-General Sir John Wright Guise KCB, (1777-1865), later a full General and GCB in 1863, 3rd. Bart. of Highnam, Gloucestershire, baron from 1834
