Longbanded in fruitwood and crossbanded in tulipwood, inlaid with scrolling acanthus, classical figures, foliage and antique motifs within bands of pastiglia, with three drawers

Lot Essay

Framed by uprights of Raphaelesque 'grotesques', this commode relates to the work of the celebrated Milanese cabinet-maker Giuseppe Maggiolini (1793-1814), Intarsiatore delle Altezze Reali. A closely related commode was sold Christie's, King Street, "The Collection of King George I of the Hellenes", 24 - 25 January 2007, lot 550 and a pair of very similar commodes was sold Sotheby's, London, 4 December 2012, lot 510.
