Anne Drelincourt was the only child of Peter Drelincourt (1644-1722), dean of Armagh, and Mary (d. 1755), daughter of Peter Maurice, dean of Derry. She married Lieutenant-Colonel Hugh Primrose (1702-1741), third and last Viscount Primrose, on 21 June 1739. Lady Primrose was a staunch Jacobite, and in 1747 gave shelter and raised money for the Jacobite heroine Flora MacDonald (1722-1790) who was released from the Tower of London, having been imprisoned for treachery - she was instrumental in the escape of Bonnie Prince Charlie from the Isle of Uist to Skye by disguising him as her 'Irish Maid'. In 1750 Prince Charles even came to visit Lady Primrose's house on Essex Street, incognito, on his secret visit to London.
