Lot Essay

Richardson advised both the 11th and 12th Dukes of Bedford on improvements and restoration at Woburn. In 1954 when it was decided to demolish the East Range of the house, as well as the Riding School and tennis court, Richardson ensured that the changes were seamlessly amalgamated.
The Chinese dairy was initially designed by Henry Holland in 1788 for the 5th Duke of Bedford and the porch added in 1804 by Humphrey Repton for the 6th Duke.

We are grateful to John Harris and Charles Hind for their assistance with cataloguing the group of architectural drawings.
