Title in red and black with engraved vignette, 28 (of 29) numbered engraved plates including an additional engraved title, all printed in black and white and sanguine, showing 32 subjects, some double-page and one folding. (Reinforcements to folding plate, title lightly soiled.) Contemporary half sheep (rubbed). Provenance: Sir Robert Harland, Bt (book label at Orwell Park, Suffolk).
FIRST EDITION WITH FINE ENGRAVED PLATES AFTER GUERCINO. The engraved vignette on title is by Giovanni Ottaviani, the frontispiece by Giovanni Battista Piranesi and the plates by Francesco Bartolozzi, Giovanni Ottaviani, Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Giacomo Nevay, Tommaso Piroli and Aureliano Milani. The book is rarely found complete and has often sold at auction with a smaller number of plates.
