FIRST EDITION OF BOOK II, SECOND EDITION 'WITH CORRECTIONS' OF BOOK I. A fervent neo-classicist, Lewis acknowledges in the Preface to Book II that he had an 'an attachment, bordering on superstition, to the venerable ruins of Greece and Italy'. His impressive list of subscribers is headed by Catherine the Great of Russia. Harris 495; cf. RIBA 1885.
