Zhang Heng (1915-1963) is an expert in Chinese classical paintings and calligraphy. Hailing from the Wu Xing prefecture of Zhejiang province, he was appointed a member of the specialist committee at the Imperial Palace Museum. After 1950, Zhang Heng took on posts such as consultant at the Shanghai Municipal Cultural Relics Department, deputy head of Cultural Relics Department, and deputy editor-in-chief of the Cultural Relics Publishing House. During this endeavor, they uncovered a trove of long lost exquisite works. Among Zhang Heng's publications are Wen Hui Zhai Cang Tang Song Yilai Minghua Ji (Album of Paintings from the Tang, Song, and Later Eras in the Yun Hui Studio Collection),Zenyang Jiangding Shuhua (How to Appraise Paintings and Calligraphy), and Mu Yan Zhai Shuhua Jiangshang Biji Notes on Appreciating Painting and Calligraphy of the Mu Yan Studio) (Manuscript).
