C.C. Wang was born in Suzhou and studied law in Shanghai. However, as a young man he decided to dedicate his life to art. Following in the time-honored tradition, he studied with the master Wu Hufan (1894-1968) and examined and copied as many fine paintings as he could. In 1949 he emigrated to New York and became a central figure of the local Chinese art society. As an artist, teacher, and adviser, he played an influential role in the development of other artists' styles and the formation of private and public collections of Chinese paintings. In his own paintings and calligraphy, while always maintaining allegiance to the tradition, he actively explored new techniques, effects, and personal expression.
