Lot Essay

The present table was formerly in the collection of Esmond Bradley Martin, whose palatial Long Island Estate, Knole, housed one of the finest groups of English furniture and decorative arts in the United States. Martin was the son of Bradley and Helen Phipps Martin, and grandson of the great industrialist, Henry Phipps, Jr.
