Lot Essay

The Baron de Lopez-Tarragoya was renowned for his collection of 18th century French decorative arts, much of which he acquired through famed Parisian dealers including Jacques Seligman, Bensimon and L. Kraemer et Fils. Born in Paris to a Spanish and Portuguese family, the Baron counted bankers to the Kings of Portugal among his ancestors. He was also known for breeding thoroughbreds, and amassed considerable fortunes at the great races of his day.
