Lot Essay

Charles J. Belden was a great American cowboy photographer who was also a rancher on the Phelps (Pitchfork) Ranch in Wyoming. He made the Ranch famous by taking pictures of it for newspapers across the United States including National Geographic and the cover of Life magazine. Thomas Molesworth and Belden collaborated on numerous commissions including pieces specifically created for Belden's home. His photography is featured at the Belden Museum in Meeteetse, Wyoming.
