A fine mid 18th-century gilded-brass Cuff-type compound monocular microscope, signed on the cruciform stage J * Cuff LONDON JNV = 25 Fecit, the body-tube with eye-piece dust slide, the tapering lower tube located in a socket on arm with bracket support, the retangular-section pillar engraved 1-6 to correspond with the setting for the six objectives (Nos 4 & 5 missing), with clamp screw and fine screw focusing adjustment, the stage with sprung slide holderk, the pillar supported on the shaped base with mirror by a scroll support on ebonised oak plinth with accessory drawer in pyramid-shaped case with accessory drawer containing ivory sliders on turned ivory ball-feet and turned ivory finial 18in. (45.7cm.) high, with mahogany display stand, with microscope table the outswept legs terminating in brass cappings and castors, 42in. (106.7cm) high
