A rare 18th-century Culpeper-type compound monocular microscope, unsigned, brass eye-piece with dust-slide, the turned lignum vitae upper body tube in three sections over the draw tube covered with green vellum with tooled vertical lines in gilt, inscribed with dotted graduations for objective settings 1-5, with lacquered brass objective holder sliding in a ray-skin covered outer tube with brass mounts, supported by three bobbin-turned pillars from the eared stage with sprung slide holder with bayonet fitting, sockets for bull's-eye condenser, frog-plate and stage specimen forceps, (all present) united with the base by scroll supports with swivel mirror, mounted on a circular plinth on shaped square base in corporating an accessory drawer containing four objectives ivory sliders and other items, in pyramid-shaped oak carving case 19in.
