A PAIR OF PAINTED RED POTTERY FIGURES OF COURT LADIES
TANG DYNASTY (AD 618-907)
Each standing figure has a full face modeled with delicate features below an elaborate helmet-like coiffure, and is shown with her head tilted to the side, and wearing a shawl tucked into the top of her long skirt while her hands are hidden within the long sleeves of her undergarment. Both have traces of orangy-red and black pigment and the long left sleeve of one figure is partially covered in an amber glaze.

Oxford Authentication Ltd. thermoluminescence test numbers C198c57 and C198c58 are consistent with the dating of this lot.
