A BLUE AND WHITE DOUBLE-GOURD VASE
TRANSITIONAL PERIOD, CIRCA 1635-40
The vase is decorated with vignettes of scholars in landscape settings representing the 'Seven Scholars of the Bamboo Grove'. On the lower bulb three scholars are gathered around a weiqi board, while two other scholars accompanied by an attendant converse, and on the upper bulb two scholars are shown seated in conversation.
