A SMALL BLUE AND WHITE BALUSTER JAR
TRANSITIONAL PERIOD, CIRCA 1650
The sides are decorated with a continuous scene of a scholar on horseback fleeing from two soldiers carrying banners in a landscape between incised borders and below foliate sprays on the neck. Together with a blue and white dish, 16th/17th century, the shallow, rounded sides are painted on the exterior with two groups of eight boys shown at play. The center of the interior is decorated with a design of a cross surrounded by four S-shaped scrolls and eight radiating leaves.
