Lot Essay

Shen Xi was a traditional Yixing artist recorded to have been active during the Daoguang period.
A pear-shaped vase bearing a Shen Xi mark, with a similar impressed leiwen diaper around the body, and painted in famille rose enamels around the neck with floral sprays, but against a blue ground, is illustrated in Purple Clay: Wellington Wang's Collection of Yixing Wares, Taipei, 1993, p. 203. See, also, the pair of famille rose-enameled vases with Shen Xi marks, from the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Gerard Hawthorn, sold at Bonhams Hong Kong, 28 November 2011, lot 269.
