Each baluster body has a pair of 'mask-and-ring' handles on the shoulders, and is decorated in mirror image with two shaped famille rose panels, depicting a pair of peacocks perched among the branches of a prunus tree on one side, and a pair of quail amidst chrysanthemum and bamboo on the reverse. The panels are surrounded by gilt foliate scroll between gilt borders at the rounded rectangular base and everted mouth, all on a rich coral ground. An apocryphal Qianlong seal mark in blue enamel is on each base.
