A CARVED RED LACQUER OCTALOBED BOX AND COVER
The slightly convex top of the cover is finely carved with a large, central, five-clawed dragon surrounded by four smaller dragons, all leaping amidst waves in pursuit of a flaming pearl, above a band of formal foliate and angular scroll on the sides, and a wider band of pairs of addorsed foliate dragons flanking lotus-topped 'T' scrolls on each lobe of the box. The rims have gilt-metal mounts.
