A GREYISH-WHITE AND RUSSET JADE CARVING OF A QILIN
17TH/18TH CENTURY
The auspicious beast is well carved in a recumbent position with legs tucked under its body above swirling clouds rising to one side, and the head is turned backwards with mouth slightly open exposing the teeth. There is a single horn between the ears, and there are finely incised hair markings either side of the knobby backbone leading to the long, bifurcated tail. The stone is of greyish-white color with some areas of light russet skin, predominantly to one side, highlighting the mane.
2½ in. (6.3 cm.) high
