Lot Essay

Abram Games frequently used large expanses of skies to exploit the strangeness and novelty of travelling through the air in his post war campaign for B.O.A.C. It was important for airlines to convey the identity of their 'home' nation which was why Abram Games, whose graphic style was at the heart of visual culture in post-war Britain, was chosen to be B.O.A.C's primary designer.
Games brilliantly introduces the B.O.A.C. speedbird, which was designed in 1932 by Theyre Lee-Elliott, in the centre of the arrow formation to solve the problem of integrating a pre-war logo into a post-war design.
