Lot Essay

Austrian lithographer Joseph Binder designed this poster for the 1939 International Art Fair held in New York. The sleek silhouette of New York's skyline, aeroplanes and ocean liner are images of modernity and emphasise the 'world of tomorrow' promised by the Fair. New York is portrayed as the epicentre of art and design and the future.
