Lot Essay

Henry Carington Bowles 1763-1830 was one of the Bowles family book and map publishers of London. The company started by Thomas Bowles in the late 17th century produced numerous atlases and pocket and wall maps, becoming Bowles and Carver in 1793 until the 1830's.
