Lot Essay

The most famous grashopper weathervane is situated on the roof of Faneuil Hall, Boston, created by Shem Drowne of Maine in circa 1742.
Later grasshoppers by other makers are known and another similar was sold by Christie's New York 21 January 2011, lot 208.
