The moulded break-front rectangular Breccia marble top above a frieze drawer with pierced scrolling acanthus mount, the moulded fall-front with with red leather-lined writing-surface and fitted interior with four various compartments and six drawers, one of which fitted with encrier divisions (missing liners), above two conformingly moulded doors, enclosing a compartment and further hinged door, and central apron with vase-shaped mount, on scrolling acanthus capped feet, with fake stamp Jean-Henri Riesener f.c. 1769 and inventory mark for St-Cloud

Lot Essay

When it appeared at auction in 1978, together with is accompanied commode, it was concidered to be by Riesener for the Royal Château Saint-Cloud, and the first edition of Kjellberg, Mobilier Français du XVIIIe Siècle, illustrates the commode on page 694.
