Lot Essay

The distinctive proportions and floral carving of these armchairs are typical of the work of Genoese chair-makers. Closely related chairs with cushion-molded frames punctuated by floral cresting and foliate-carved knees are illustrated in L. Canonero, Il Barocchetto Genovese, Milan, 1962, plates CIV, CV, CXII.
