A FLEMISH PASTORAL TAPESTRY
BRUSSELS, FIRST HALF 17TH CENTURY
Woven in wools and silks, depicting courtly figures on horses resting by a dolphin fountain flanked by a campana vase in an extensive forest landscape, the right hand side of the central field with further exotically dressed figures on a lavishly dressed camel flanked by attendants and by a Chinese seated page, with further camels from the same convoy visible in the background, with a castle and village, within a rich floral and fruited garlanded border with parrots and serpents, with a lambrequined canopy to the centre of the upper border, and with brown outer slip, the lower border partly rewoven, some patching and restoration, the central field patched and slightly reduced in width, the tapestry mounted on a canvas and folding frame
