A LARGE MAMLUK ENGRAVED COPPER BASIN
EGYPT OR SYRIA, 15TH CENTURY
With shallow rounded base and inward sloping sides, the exterior sides engraved with circular cartouches containing geometric 'Y' shaped pattern alternating with oval cartouches containing dense muhaqqaq, divided by further oval cartouches containing stylized knotted kufic on a ground of interlaced scrolling vine, bands of strapwork above and below, a band of scrolling vine issuing cusped palmettes below the rim, the base and a small section in the rim with old repairs
