Lot Essay

A similar depiction of the Golden Temple dated to circa 1860-62 is in the British Library (inv. Add.Or.486, Golden Temple of Amritsar: Reflections of the Past, Exhibition Catalogue, London, 2011, fig. 89). A slightly earlier panorama of Lahore with Sikh dignitaries depicted in the foreground was sold at Christie's South Kensington, 7 October 2011, lot 388.
