With straight blade, the spine with a gold-damascened calligraphic inscriptions in nasta'liq script, the basket hilt's square and spike surmounting the pommel with a dense lattice of foliate patterns, the langet and knuckle guard ornate with palmettes, with plain sheath

Lot Essay

The gold inscription on the blade is in praise to Imam 'Ali. It reads shah-e mardan shir-e yazdan quwat-e pawardigar ('King of Men, Lion of Yazdan, Strength of the Almighty')
