The tubular container worked in repoussé and decorated with scenes illustrating Indian country life, the center engraved with a commemorative text in English within a cusped medallion, with tapering ends, the dark wood stand on four feet, decorated with a silver map of India, the enamelled flags of India and Pakistan raised in the front, with original printed commemorative documents from the Western India Match Company

Lot Essay

The inscription on the central cartouche reads: "Presented to Mr. C. Hallen Manager, Calcutta Factory, in honour of his farewell day in Commemoration of his popular connection with the "WIMCO" Mazdur Union, Cal, 14th March 1948". As stated in one of the documents kept within the tube, it was presented to C. Hallen "on the occasion of his final departure from India for Sweden".
