The Encyclopaedia of Islam mentions that this work was composed in ten days "in elegant and flowing language" by Ibn al-Habbariyya, about the year 1100 ("Kalila wa Dimna", Encyclopaedia of Islam, vol.IV, p.696). It is one of the three Arabic versified versions of Kalila wa Dimna, one being lost (by Aban al-Lahiqi) and the other existing in one manuscript only (according to the Encyclopaedia, 'Abd al-Mu'min b. al-Hasan al-Husayn al-Saghani's Durr al-Hikam fi Amthal al-Hunud wa al-'Ajam) now in Vienna.
In the colophon, the scribe mentions that he is the assistant (mu'in) of the Qadiriyya Shaykh, Muhyi al-Din 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani.
